I recently visited California for the first time. Before I went I made a map of my destination. As I flew into Long Beach, the pilot flew exactly over the area I had mapped -- this was my first view of the Pacific Ocean -- just as I had seen it digitally.
The map is a series of merged ten-meter digital elevation models, overlaid with one-meter resolution orthophotos, with procedural texture and custom detail.
